In addition to having a famous name, Farrah Faucette is a superstar at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office. Faucette, who works in the K-9 unit at the Sheriff’s Office was the winner of the Guy White Award, the top honor presented by the office each year. With the help of her K-9 partner, Bodi, Faucette works to keep the streets of St. Johns County safe.
Where are you originally from?
I was born in Jacksonville but I grew up in Palatka. I moved to St. Augustine and I’ve been here ever since.
What got you involved in law enforcement?
A friend of mine was thinking about putting in an application and I started thinking that I could do that.
How long have you worked at the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office?
I’ve been here 13 years.
What’s it like being a K-9 handler?
It is the best job in the Sheriff’s Office. It’s hardwork but it’s always worth it.
Is Bodi strictly a work dog or is he like a pet?
He’s a work dog at work. At home he is just a pet. When I’m off and at the house, he’s off.
How many K-9’s does the St. Johns County Sherriff’s Office have?
We have nine.
How long does a dog have to go through training before entering service?
We take them to school for six months and teach them everything.
When you’re in a dangerous situation, how concerned are you for Bodi?
He is supposed to be a tool but of course I’m very concerned. That is my partner.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I’ve been playing women’s professional football for 10 years. I play with the Jacksonville Dixie Blues.
What does it feel like to be the winner of the Guy White Award?
It’s the top award. It was amazing. There’s no other way to put it.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to all kinds of stuff depending on the mood I’m in.
