Ponte Vedra soccer player named Parade Magazine’s Player of the Year
Morgan Brian, a Ponte Vedra Soccer player and St. Simon’s resident, was honored to be named Parade Magazine’s girls soccer player of the year for 2010.
Brian, a member of the U17 girls Ponte Vedra Storm team (where she has played for six years) is also the captain of the U17 U.S. Women’s National Team where she holds the honor of top scorer. Brian recently shared the cover of Parade with World Cup player Landon Donovan.
In addition to Brian, Kaili Torres, Ponte Vedra Storm player and Brian’s National Team teammate, was named to Parade’s All-American Soccer Team. This is an incredible honor for both girls. Only 35 high school girls players from the entire U.S. are given this distinction.
The Ponte Vedra U17 Girls Storm team, coached by Luis Torres, has broken every record in the State of Florida. In 2009 they were State and Regional Champions and came in 2nd at the National Championships. Four members of this team are members of the U17 U.S. Women’s National Team and one is a member of the U18 National Team. The Storm team as a whole has traveled over a half a million miles in a year and a half. At press time 14 of the team members have committed to Division 1 schools including Ponte Vedra Beach resident Theresa Diederich, who will play for Alabama in the fall.
