Two 16-year-old girls clashed over a boy this past Friday night in Sawgrass Country Club near the recreation fields. The fight ended with one of the girls stabbing the other.

The victim, who deputies say lives in Sawgrass, then sent a text message to a friend asking to be taken to a hospital. The two made it as far as the Winn-Dixie grocery store on Solana Road before the girl’s bleeding prompted them to stop and call 911.

The victim was stabilized by St. Johns Fire Rescue before being transported by air to Shands Jacksonville Medical Center.

St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Sgt. Chuck Mulligan said Tuesday deputies had turned the case over to the State Attorney’s office, which planned to conduct an investigation and interview all the parties before deciding whether or not to issue an arrest warrant for the suspect.

Mulligan said the 16-year-old suspect listed her home as a Neptune Beach address.
