The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce’s Ponte Vedra Area Council changed its name. The newly christened Northeast Business Council’s executive committee voted to change the name to better reflect the geographic boundaries of the council and its membership base.
"We have changed the name of the council to more accurately reflect the growing geographic area of our council," said Isabelle Rodriguez, vice president of the chamber. "The boundaries of this council are covering more than just Ponte Vedra."
Rodriguez said the members in other areas didn’t feel included in a council carrying the Ponte Vedra name. Additionally, the members in Ponte Vedra felt the name was limiting them to a specific geographic area that didn’t reflect the council’s boundaries, she said.
"The word Business was added to replace the word Area to increase public awareness that this organization is first and foremost a business organization led by business members and made for business members," said Rodriguez.
The Northeast Business Council is an extension of the St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce in the northeast part of the county.
