Del Webb women donate blankets for people, pets

Nearly 70 women who live in Nocatee’s Del Webb community recently participated in a community outreach project to provide blankets for people and pets in need. Participating women not only donated material and money, but some women also made the blankets, 65 of which were donated to the Jacksonville chapter of Project Linus, which delivers blankets to local and national children’s hospitals. Another 80 blankets are being given to local charities, including St. Gerard’s campus, Alpha Omega Miracle Home, Katz 4 Keeps and St. Johns County Pet Rescue. The group also created lap blankets for nursing homes.

“Del Webb is a patchwork of people from New York to San Francisco, South Florida to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, Utah to Georgia and then some,” said resident Edith Andersen, who organized the project. “For many of these transplants, the question is ‘How can I make a difference in my new home?’ The answer was to come together (for the blanket project.”
