Justin Smith has been an offensive leader for the St. Johns River State College baseball team.

Entering Sunday’s action, the sophomore right fielder led the team with a .435 batting average and 27 hits. The Bartram Trail High School graduate had seven multi-hit efforts, including three three-hit games. He had gone hitless just once in 18 games.

Batting in the top third of the order, Smith had three home runs, which tied for the team lead, and 10 runs batted in.

More baseball

Bartram Trail alumnus Blake Marabell hit .294 in the 13 games he played for College of Central Florida. He had one home run, and his nine RBIs ranked third on the squad.

Maryville College left-handed pitcher Evan Heffner was 0-1 with a 6.75 earned run average in two starts. He is out of Ponte Vedra High.

Senior outfielder Luke Parker, a past Shark, hit .250 through eight games for Faulkner University.

Men’s tennis

Freshman Martin Gutierrez won his Barry University debut 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles during the team’s victory over St. Thomas. He competed for the Bears.

Softball

Junior third baseman Brittany McGuire hit .263 with one home run and four RBIs in eight starts for Florida Gulf Coast University. She played for the Sharks.

Saint Leo University sophomore outfielder Alyssa Wash batted .313 with one home run and three RBIs in 11 games. She is a former Bear.

Women’s golf

Purdue University senior August Kim shot a 227 (80-75-72) at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Allen D. Nease graduate placed second among the Boilermakers and had the team’s first eagle of the season.

Georgia Southern University sophomore Ansley Bowman finished third among the Eagles and 30th overall at the Texas State Invitational. She is from Bartram Trail.

Women’s rugby

Ponte Vedra resident Reilly Kissinger started six of the nine games she played for Army West Point. The junior had five points.
