The Ponte Vedra Sharks posted their fourth straight win of the lacrosse season by dispatching Bolles 18-8 last week at the Shark Tank. Eight different players scored for the Sharks, led by Reid Smith with four goals. Jack Burke, Jack Woeste and Clay Welch each scored three times.

Ponte Vedra moved in front quickly on Matt Keeler’s goal at the seven-minute mark. Four minutes later, the Sharks used three goals in less than 40 seconds to take a commanding 4-0 lead. Bolles answered with a pair of goals by senior Gray King to pull within two, 4-2, at the first quarter break. Woeste’s goal made the score 5-2, but King kept the Bulldogs in the game with his third goal.

Goals by Smith, Burke and Walker Azzaro bumped the Shark advantage to 8-3 before the first half ended. The visitors stayed close, making it 8-4 in the closing seconds of the half.

After a pair of second quarter goals by Smith and Welch plus a single by Woeste, the Sharks led 13-6 at the break. King, Bolles’ leading scorer, set up the Bulldogs’ fifth goal and scored their sixth to send the game into the fourth quarter, with Ponte Vedra still holding a solid seven-goal advantage.

The final quarter was all Ponte Vedra’s, as Smith picked up his fourth goal of the game, Woeste his third and Burke his third. Single goals by Dylan Hess and Keeler rounded out the scoring for Ponte Vedra.

The Sharks are looking to improve on last year’s incredible season when they finished as state champion runner-up. They play next at host local rival Nease on Thursday, March 2 and IMG on Saturday, March 4.
