Alhambra debuts ‘A Fox on the Fairway’ as THE PLAYERS kicks off

As THE PLAYERS Championship draws thousands of golf-lovers to the Jacksonville area this week, the Alhambra Theatre & Dining has debuted a relevant comedy new to its iconic stage: Ken Ludwig’s “A Fox on the Fairway.” Opening yesterday, May 9, the show adds to the area’s thirst for all things golf, with its grand opening gala set for Friday, May 11.

Bingham, president of the Quail Valley Country Club, is in a difficult position when he discovers that the golfer he chose to represent his club in the city championship has switched sides, having been recruited by his counterpart and opponent. Realizing the huge bet he foolishly wagered is now likely to be lost, Bingham recruits the skillful Justin, only to discover that his newly-hired hand is in love with Louise, the waitress at the club, which causes his ringer much distraction. When Justin learns that Louise has lost the engagement ring he gave her, he comes unglued. Comedy ensues as Bingham tries to find a replacement for Justin to win the game, win the wager and get his life in order.

A comic romp written by the Tony Award-winning author of “Lend Me a Tenor,” “A Fox on the Fairway” gives golfers and non-golfers an interesting slice of country club life. The menu features a number of country club favorites, including Executive Chef Dejuan Roy’s fabled prime rib.
