Alhambra to hold auditions for Annie May 8

Budding thespians looking to spend their summer on “Easy Street” may want to consider auditioning for the Alhambra Theatre & Dining’s upcoming production of the popular Broadway musical “Annie.”

Auditions will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, May 8 at the Alhambra rehearsal hall, located in the Arlington YMCA, 10131 Atlantic Blvd. in Jacksonville. Children will be seen after 3 p.m. as time permits. Children auditioning will learn and sing “It’s a Hard Knock Life.”

The production is seeking local girls ages 6 through 12. Girls will be double cast and alternate performances of the show, which will run June 28 through Aug. 13. Rehearsals begin June 19.

Based on the popular “Little Orphan Annie” comic strip, “Annie” premiered on Broadway in 1977 and became an immediate hit, running for six years. The show about plucky orphan Annie, her dog Sandy and Daddy Warbucks includes such popular show tunes as “You’re Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile,” “Easy Street” and “Tomorrow.”
