St. Patrick's Day Parade honors hurricane volunteers

St. Augustine was a sea of green Saturday, when thousands of spectators flocked to the Ancient City for the annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

The yearly tradition featured an estimated 1,000 participants, including four Celtic pipe and drum corps and numerous community groups. Serving as honored “grand marshals” of this year’s parade were volunteers from Stand Together St. Augustine, which raised money to aid local victims of Hurricane Matthew.

Spectators clad in everything from kilts to Kelly-green pirate attire lined the streets of the historic district as the parade wended its way to and from Francis Field, traveling down Orange Street to Avenida Menendez, past the Castillo de San Marcos and then up Cathedral Place near the Plaza de la Constitucion. Attendees then had an opportunity to enjoy more holiday heritage at the Celtic Music & Heritage Festival happening at Francis Field.
