Azurea at One Ocean debuts delightfully daring spring menu

Posted

Nestled by the sea in Atlantic Beach, Azurea at One Ocean is the epitome of what fine dining should be. From the attentive service to the gorgeous ocean views, the award-winning restaurant has become known as one of Greater Jacksonville’s finest, and with consideration towards the recent seasonal additions to the menu, it’s no mystery why. From classic coastal cuisine to adventurous new offerings like ostrich and elk, those who dine at this elegant waterfront eatery are sure to be impressed by its diverse and artfully crafted menu.

Courtesy of Chef Jay Mendoza, Azurea’s new spring menu features an eclectic variety of offerings for diners of all persuasions. Appetizers like the First Coast Fried Oysters and the House Smoked Salmon Rillette will be universally appreciated and are perfect for sharing. The Duck Spring Rolls are also worth trying, if not solely for the delicious plum and datil pepper chutney they come with, and the rich and creamy Broccoli and Cheddar Bisque is sure to please even the most selective eaters.

As for the main course, those who have never tasted ostrich will be pleasantly surprised by the tender and juicy Ostrich Loin—particularly when paired with a glass of pinot noir or one of the restaurant’s signature cocktails (the Dragon Berry Mojito is refreshing). With a flavor similar to that of beef, the ostrich is seasoned with a ghost pepper rub and slathered in a molasses blueberry barbecue sauce, giving the dish a slight kick that packs just the right amount of punch. Served with a side of bacon macaroni and cheese, this entrée makes for the perfect combination of courage and comfort.

Another seasonal update is the Mountain River Elk Chop. Grilled and served with chimichurri sauce as well as a relish made with hearts of palm and avocado, this dish tastes similar to steak, but with a fairly gamey flavor. Those in the mood to try something new, yet slightly familiar, will be pleased with this selection.

Among Azurea’s delectable dessert offerings, crafted by Pastry Chef James Victorino, are the Meyer Lemon Curd Ricotta Cheesecake, the Dark Chocolate Macaron and the Spring Mixed Berry Pound Cake. Though all are good, the Florida Key Lime Meringue Torte deserves its own tier. Drizzled with mango coulis, this rich dessert offers just the right blend of sweet and sour paired with a light and fluffy texture.

Azurea at One Ocean is open from 3 p.m. to midnight Monday through Thursday, noon to 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and noon to midnight on Sunday. For more information about the restaurant and its offerings, call (904) 249-7402 or visit www.oneoceanresort.com.
