Attorney Edward L. Birk of Marks Gray was elected vice president of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (ADTA) at its 77th annual meeting in Austin, Texas, on April 21. Birk, who is a Ponte Vedra resident, has been a member of the association since 2003 and has previously served as treasurer.

The ADTA is an organization of defense lawyers that accepts members by invitation only, allowing only one prime member per 1 million in population for each city, town or municipality across the U.S., the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, France and the United Kingdom. The ADTA invites lawyers who are “proven and recognized successful professionals possessing the highest skill level of a defense trial attorney in civil cases.”

“It is a very humbling experience to receive such an honor — particularly because it comes from those for whom I have the greatest respect,” Birk said.

Birk has practiced with Marks Gray since June 1999 and as a partner in the law firm since January 2003. His practice focuses on news media and First Amendment rights. He represents clients in municipal liabilities, E.R.I.S.A. benefits, employment, the Fair Labor Standards Act and products liability. He is also AV Preeminent-rated from Martindale-Hubbell. Additionally, since 2013, Birk has been named to The Best Lawyers in America list for his work in employment law, and also to Florida Super Lawyers magazine’s Super Lawyers list.
