First Coast Opera kicks off its 2018-19 season with “Bernstein’s Broadway,” a concert highlighting the musical legacy of iconic American composer and conductor Leonard Bernstein.

Part of the international “Leonard Bernstein at 100” celebration, “Bernstein’s Broadway” will feature hit tunes from his Broadway musicals performed by guest artists in the Lightner Museum swimming pool. The program will feature selections from “West Side Story,” “Candide,” “On the Town,” “Trouble in Tahiti,” and “Wonderful Town.”

Returning guest artists include Fort Lauderdale soprano Elena Galván, who performed the role of Kay in last season’s “The Stranger’s Tale;” Tampa mezzo soprano Sarah Nordin, who performed in last season’s Opera’s “Most Haunting Melodies” concert; University of Florida professor Matt Morgan, who last sang with First Coast Opera in the 2015 Opera Paris concert; and popular local singer Carrie Thornton with music director Curtis Powell accompanying on piano. They will be joined by St. Petersburg baritone Luis González and Tampa bass Tyler Putnam, each making First Coast Opera debuts.

The program will be performed twice at the Lightner Museum at 25 Granada St. in downtown Saint Augustine on Thursday, Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $35 for adults and $10 for students. They are available at www.firstcoastopera.com or by calling (904) 417-5555.
