Writers in need of firearm and forensic advice may have their questions answered soon.
Firearms forensic scientist Kristin Durfee will speak at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library Saturday, April 29 at 10:30 a.m. as part of a Ponte Vedra Writers Association meeting. Durfee will help educate writers about these issues during her talk, “How to Commit the Perfect Murder (on Paper).”
“Don’t risk throwing your reader out of your story because an incorrect term was used,” Durfee said. “Learn how to properly write about firearms, the laboratory’s role in solving your character’s death and how to accurately portray courtroom testimony with an expert witness.”
During her presentation, Durfee will address key points and elements necessary for writers, including the correct types and terminology of firearms, information about what the crime lab does and does not do, and how those elements tie together in court and in fiction.
A Pennsylvania native, Durfee writes for both young adult and adult readers and has published two full-length novels as well as short stories. She currently resides near Orlando with her husband, son and dogs.
The Ponte Vedra Writers chapter is one of more than 50 writers groups affiliated with the Florida Writers Association, a nonprofit membership organization with nearly 1,500 members. For more information about the organization, visit www.floridawriters.net.
