Gabriel House of Care celebrated its 6th anniversary recently at the nonprofit’s annual gala hosted by honorary chairs Jorge and Leslie Bacardi.

Held April 21 at the TPC Sawgrass Clubhouse, the event attracted more than 300 supporters of the nonprofit organization, which provides lodging and supportive programs for organ transplant and cancer patients and their caregivers who come to Jacksonville for medical treatment.

“We are very blessed to have so many people who believe in the mission of Gabriel House and the services we provide to those who stay with us,” Executive Director Valerie Callahan said. “Everyone who comes through our doors is dealing with a life-changing medical situation and the stress of it is overwhelming. That’s why we have supportive programs in place to help them cope with their fear, anxiety and stress not only while they’re with us but also when they return home.”

Located on the west campus of Mayo Clinic, Gabriel House has served approximately 4,200 patients and caregivers since opening in April 2011. The organization has also expanded its services to include programs focusing on improving quality of life factors throughout the transplant or cancer treatment process. Guest stays range from six weeks to six months or longer.
