Mayo Clinic Jacksonville CEO Gianrico Farrugia, M.D., and staff of the medical center hosted a special reception July 26 to celebrate the completion of the Dorothy J. and Harry T. Mangurian, Jr. Building.
The new building will house Mayo Clinic’s cancer, neurological and neurosurgical care programs in Florida and is a milestone in the organization’s expansion to serve more patients and mission to be the destination medical center for the Southeast United States. Attendees of the event enjoyed a dedication of the building, tours and music provided by A Noble Sound.
The building came to fruition after Mayo Clinic’s Florida campus received a $20 million gift from The Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation in Fort Lauderdale. It’s named in honor of Harry T. Mangurian and his wife, Dorothy Mangurian. Harry Mangurian died of leukemia in 2008. Dorothy Mangurian was diagnosed with Lewy body dementia, a neurological condition that can have features of Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s diseases. She passed away in 2015.
Features of the new building include two floors devoted to hematology and oncology care; an Oncology Infusion Center; one floor devoted to neurology and neurosurgery; patient care enhancements, such as an outdoor garden and meeting space for support groups and dietary options tailored to specific diseases; and space for education and research enhancements.
