Mixed RITA tennis tournament to be held June 3-4

The inaugural Mixed RITA (Research Is The Answer) tennis tournament will be held June 3-4 at the Sawgrass Country Club to raise money for cancer research and care.

New to the RITA Foundation – which also holds the SenioRITAs and RITA events – the mixed doubles tournament will feature both male and female participants and ultimately support efforts to fight both prostate cancer and breast cancer. All money will remain local, with proceeds for prostate cancer benefiting Baptist Health and those for breast cancer benefiting Mayo Clinic.

The event was started by a group of men whose wives have played for several years in the SenioRITAs tennis tournaments to raise money for breast cancer research and care, which inspired them to establish an event and cause of their own. The Mixed RITA organizers are anticipating a successful weekend, with all team slots filled and many local businesses and individuals providing donations and support. The RITA Foundation was founded more than 20 years ago with the inaugural women’s doubles tennis tournament raising money to help fight breast cancer. The foundation’s efforts help support clinical research, basic research, education, awareness and patient related cancer programs.
