Alexander Hamilton performances will be hosted and sponsored in January by the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of Florida (NSCDA-FL) and the Roger L. and Rochelle S. Main Charitable Trust for public and private school students in St. Johns and Duval Counties.
Eben Kuhn, a professional actor with the American Historical Theatre, will be representing Alexander Hamilton during several stages of the character’s life, including the early years, education, wartime, Hamilton's drive to establish America's independence and his work in Congress for the Constitution and National Bank.
Performances will take place for approximately 1,600 fifth grade students Jan. 16-17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Jacksonville Public Library, located at 303 N. Laura St. in Downtown Jacksonville. Performances will be held for approximately 500 honor-roll students at Creekside High School Jan. 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Students from Bartram Trail High School will also be on hand.
The NSCDA-FL brings more than 13 years of historic character performances to students throughout Northeast Florida, including re-enactors who specialize as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, James Madison and other founding fathers. The performances have been recognized by the NSCDA-FL’s historic re-enactor program Lamar Award for Excellence in the Historical Activities category.
Presenters are well-versed in the portrayal of their characters, including personalities, nuances and history with a 45-minute interactive presentation and question and answer session. The school programs are coordinated by the Dames, school teachers and school district department supervisors, along with a curriculum and essay contest.
The programs are designed to share a much deeper understanding of the people and issues that shape the United States and inspire enthusiasm about history. NSCDA-FL's mission is to support public outreach programs that promote the nation's heritage through preservation, patriotic service and educational projects. Additionally, NSCDA-FL is the owner operator of the Ximenez-Fatio House Museum at 20 Aviles St. in historic downtown St. Augustine. The property is open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and tours of the buildings and rooms are available from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
