One Ocean Resort & Spa recently announced that Food & Beverage Director Stephen Wittman has been recognized as a Certified Sommelier by the Court of Master Sommeliers Americas.
“I am incredibly proud of Stephen for his dedication to the craft and going above and beyond to master the intricacies of wine culture,” said Ted Peters, vice president of culinary for the Luxury Division of Remington Hotels, which manages One Ocean Resort & Spa. “His certification establishes a heightened standard of trusted beverage knowledge and attentive service throughout One Ocean Resort & Spa.”
During the certification process, Wittman became well-versed in numerous wine regions, identifying a wine’s age, varietal characteristics and flavor notes. The extensive examination consists of deductive tasting, theory, decanting and practical service, showcasing candidates’ attention to detail and presentation.
“I pursued this recognition because of my passion for continued education and enhancing the guest experience through the enjoyment of wine,” said Wittman. “As a Certified Sommelier, I am able to advance Azurea’s artfully-inspired menus and match ideal pairings for both One Ocean guests and special event clients.”
