One of Us: Aimee Boggs

Posted

Aimee Boggs is the senior vice president of investments for BOGGS-HUFFMAN Wealth Management Group of Raymond James, which is in the Veranda Building on A1A. A Ponte Vedra resident, Boggs is also Volunteers in Medicine’s Women with Heart honoree for the month of September.

Can you please tell us about your background?

I was the fourth generation to grow up in Mt. Lebanon, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.  I am the fourth of five children who all had a passion for snow skiing. Three of us attended the University of Colorado in Boulder, and I was the only one to venture to Northeast Florida. Upon completing my major in accounting, I began my career in Jacksonville as a CPA with Ernst & Young back in the days of the “BIG 8” public accounting firms. The PGA Tour was a client, and from 1988 to 1991, I was an assistant controller. After a total of 12 years in accounting, I was introduced to the wealth management industry, and I’ve been thrilled ever since having found my true “calling” as a financial advisor in 1996.

What do you enjoy most about your work at Raymond James?

I joined Raymond James in 2013 with my business partner, Dave Huffman, and we are grateful to be BOGGS-HUFFMAN Wealth Management Group of Raymond James. Together we enjoy the opportunities to work with wonderful clients and share in the most personal and important aspects of their lives. We receive tremendous satisfaction when we provide meaningful council so that their life goals are achieved. Additionally, Raymond James is a wonderful community partner, and I am tremendously appreciative of the support they provide which allows me to give back to the community.

Can you please tell us about your involvement with Volunteers in Medicine?

I first became aware of Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) last year when at a luncheon I reconnected with Cindy Cooper, VIM chief development officer. I was seated next to Mary-Pat Corrigan, executive director of VIM, and we learned that we had several connections through previous community involvements. Cindy invited me to tour the clinic in Jacksonville, and I was thoroughly impressed by the doctors and nurses volunteering to provide health care to the working poor of Northeast Florida. As it unfolded, I learned that Dottie Dorian was a co-founder, and I also knew several other doctors and board members working toward this meaningful mission. I’ve experienced illness in my immediate family, and I realize the toll that illness takes on the entire family

What makes Volunteers in Medicine so special to you?

The opportunity to raise awareness of the valuable work they do AND for those who want to give back to the community, how they may support their mission…that’s what makes the organization so special to me. In fact, during this month of September, I am honored to be recognized as a Women with Heart honoree by VIM. I am one of 12 women nominated in February, and each of us has a month to wear the stunning “Heart of Jacksonville” diamond necklace donated by Beard’s Jewelry. The idea is for the necklace to be a conversation starter and allow me the opportunity to tell the Volunteers in Medicine Story daily. During this month, I have planned a community yoga event to take place September 23 at the TPC Clubhouse Lawn.  Additionally, I have begun a campaign to do 1,000 sun salutations in September (33 each day and 34 on the last day of September) to demonstrate my commitment to the cause.

What brought you to the First Coast?

My wonderful husband of 34 years. It was an unlikely destination for both of us having met as ski instructors in the Northeast. Although we thought we would be in Florida temporarily, the community grew on us and we redirected our love of skiing into cycling just as that sport was taking off in the early 90s. We have both built businesses in Northeast Florida and now have roots that are deep with family and friends being our best anchor.

What do you enjoy most about living in Ponte Vedra Beach?

I have the ultimate good fortune to live AND work in Ponte Vedra Beach, which I affectionately refer to as “The Neighborhood of Make Believe.”  The ability to have an active lifestyle and outside the majority of the time is unbeatable. When we host friends and family, they always want to know why anyone would need to take a vacation away from this paradise. So, when we do, it’s to get to the higher elevations and likely to ski.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

I love many forms of exercise and strive to incorporate something into every day.  For decades, bicycling was a huge part of our lives. Slowly, that has shifted and now the focus is yoga. Both my husband and I got certified as yoga instructors. But undoubtedly my favorite thing is to host family and friends in what has become known as Camp Boggs. This usually includes surf camp, with everyone playing in the ocean, surfing, paddle boarding, kayaking or riding bikes.  We love to share the best parts of our slice of heaven and so far, everyone wants to come back.
