The parking lot at Mickler’s Landing Beachfront Park could see some major improvements and aesthetic upgrades.

A proposal being made to St. Johns County seeks to add picnic pavilions, a new parking lot and additional landscaping to the popular ocean front park on A1A in Ponte Vedra Beach.

According to Billy Zeits, assistant director of the St. Johns County Parks and Recreation Department, the project is “not currently approved or funded and is only in the design and permitting stages.”

The proposal specifically asks for the construction of two 520-square-foot, open-air pavilions, the repaving and striping of the existing parking lot, reconstruction of the walkover, construction of an overflow parking lot and new and additional landscaping at the parking area.

The next step for the proposal is to go before the Ponte Vedra Architectural Review Committee (PVARC), which is scheduled for Jan. 24, said Kim Del Rance of the St. Johns County Growth Management Department. The ARC determines compliance with the development standards and design standards as set by the county.
