With the reopening of the Friends of the Library Community Room, the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library welcomed a slew of changes and additions.

The library recently welcomed Youth Services Intern Sherrie Morrison, who is finishing a master’s degree in Library Science and took on an active role in the programming, collection development and services at the children’s reference desk.

February also saw the launch of new Storytime programming, including the Pre-K Storytime Class for preparation of VPK, kindergarten and beyond for children ages 3 and up, the Toddler Movement class for walkers and the “Just for Babies” class for infants and pre-walkers to gain early literacy skills. The library ended the month with a Pre-K Storytime Class devoted to diversity, in which participants celebrated what makes themselves and their friends special.

According to Assistant Branch Manager Anne Crawford, the addition of Morrison allowed herself and Youth Services Assistant Suzanne Egeln to provide a new art workshop for children ages 6-10 using a program idea from “Art Workshops for Children” by Herve Tullet. The workshop encourages kids to engage in process-based art with no specific outcome.

“We think (Morrison) will make a fantastic youth services librarian,” Crawford said. “And we so appreciate our patrons for being their usual welcoming, friendly and supportive selves.”
