During a Wednesday dual meet on Jan. 23, the Ponte Vedra Sharks wrestling team came up short, 45-38, to the Fletcher Senators on their home mat.
Highlight matches for that contest were Preston Turner and Rett Maritato's pins and a 4-1 win by Ethan Baur.
On Saturday, Jan. 26, Ponte Vedra competed in the 10-team Bishop Snyder Dual Meet Tournament. The Sharks rolled as they won four of their five matches (West Nassau 54-27, Episcopal 42-30, Fletcher 52-35 and West Side 54-24). Their lone loss was a close one as they were nipped by Sandalwood 33-31.
Tournament point producers for Ponte Vedra were Rett Maritato with four pins; Alex de Almeida with three pins and an 11-3 win; and Troy Maritato with two pins and 12-9 and 15-4 decisions. Preston Turner had three pins on the day, and Ethan Baur had two pins. Newcomers to the lineup with pins were Harlan Nikolov, Austen Schottel, Zander Lauren and Simon Mann.
