The Salvation Army is holding its fourth annual Red Shield Ball Saturday, Oct. 14 at the University of North Florida to benefit the organization’s Red Shield Lodge, which provides shelter and support to women, children and families in crisis.
To be held at the Adam W. Herbert University Center from 6:30 to 11 p.m., the fundraiser seeks to raise $200,000, which will go directly toward providing clean and safe shelter, nutritious meals and case management for resident families. The Salvation Army also plans to raise an additional $50,000 during a “Fund-A-Need” portion of the night that will be used to renovate 10 family rooms at the shelter. Founded in 1987, the downtown-Jacksonville based Red Shield Lodge provides shelter and support to approximately 150 families each year, serving more than 400 children on average.
This year’s gala features prominent, local philanthropists Michael Ward and Jennifer Glock as honorary chairs. Ward, the former CEO of CSX, and Glock have provided The Salvation Army with significant support, as well as several other charities and nonprofits in Jacksonville.
The Red Shield Ball will also feature dinner, live music by The Faze Band, dancing, live and silent auctions and inspiration from people who have found help and hope through the Salvation Army’s shelter.
Tickets are now on sale for the event. General admission tickets are $150. Tickets for people ages 35 and under are $100.
