The “Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants” recently presented its springtime show at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library: a western-themed flower arranging demonstration tied to the “St. Johns Reads 2017” selection of “True Grit.”

Nearly 60 people attended the Feb. 25 event, which featured a raffle ticket sale, cookies and refreshments. Attendees also watched the 2010 Coen Brothers version of “True Grit.”

The event’s flower arrangements included bright orange peppers and cacti, cowgirl boots and many other western-themed décors such as saddles and western artwork. At the end of the show, nearly 20 arrangements as well as flower bouquets were raffled off to event attendees. The raffle sales helped to sponsor the event’s flowers, plants, containers and refreshments.

The “Sisterhood of the Traveling Plants” is comprised of Marilyn Smith and Cathy Snyder from the Las Adelfas Circle of the Garden Club of St. Augustine. They will next present a program featuring “Downton Abbey”-themed flower arranging at the Lightner Museum in St. Augustine July 23 from 4 to 6 p.m. The duo will then present the “Christmas at Downton” show in the fall.
