Under the direction of Mike Sanflippo, the St. Augustine Community Chorus will celebrate the start of the 2018-19 concert series with performances of "Gaudete! Rejoice!" on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine.

The chorus, which is celebrating its 70th anniversary, will be accompanied by brass, percussion and strings, including some traditional carols, excerpts from Handel's “Messiah” and a special appearance by the St. Augustine Youth Chorus. The evening will also commemorate the 200th anniversary of “Silent Night” by including the original version in the program, which includes the music of Z Randall Stroope, Michael Engelhardt and Dr. Peter J. Mathews. To celebrate the chorus’ 70th anniversary, a commissioned piece written by Matthews entitled “What Sweeter Music” will be premiered.

Concert tickets cost $20 in advance for adults and $25 at the door; $12 for ages 11-17; and $5 for active military with a valid ID. Children 10 and under can attend for free. Tickets are available online at www.staugustinecommunitychorus.org.
