The St. Augustine Community Chorus, under the direction of Mike Sanflippo, will present “Not One Sparrow is Forgotten,” featuring the premiere of “Mass” by Loren C. Fortna, as part of its 2017-2018 concert season on Sunday, May 13, at 3 p.m. at Ancient City Baptist Church in Downtown St. Augustine.

For the premiere of his new work, Fortna will accompany his composition on classical guitar. The program will include a trio of pieces as a prelude to the “Mass” that share themes of peace, equality and compassion. The Mass is a large-scale setting of the traditional texts in the customary five movement form. Listeners will find great variety in Fortna’s writing, from lyrical soaring lines to angular, rhythmic passages, as he explores a wide range of style for the guitar, soloists and chorus alike.

Ancient City Baptist Church is located at 27 Sevilla St. Concert tickets will cost adults $15 in advance and $20 at the door for adults, and $5 for students and military with ID. Advance tickets can be purchased at www.staugustinecommunitychorus.org, or at the following supportive businesses: Carter's Jewelry, Flowers by Shirley, Herbie Wiles Insurance, Southern Horticulture and Sterry Piano.
