Summer in the Oldest City: Activities abound in St. Augustine

St. Augustine has always acted as a cultural and historic hub on the First Coast, and this summer, the Ancient City will offer more of the same music, history and culture for which the it is known.


Music by the Sea

Wednesday evenings


More than 20 different bands will play a wide variety of music – from jazz and pop to classic rock and rhythm and blues – all summer long. Each week a local restaurant will offer dinner for sale beginning at 6 p.m. with all items priced at $10 or less. At 7 p.m., a free, two-hour concert will be held in the pavilion at St. Johns County Pier Park, located at 350 A1A Beach Blvd. in St. Augustine Beach. Concerts in the Plaza

Thursday evenings


Visitors to the historic district will delight in the sounds of an outdoor concert. This free summer concert series features local and regional bands and will continue throughout the summer on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m. Shows will be held in the Plaza de la Constitución’s Gazebo, between Cathedral Place and King Street. The Nance

The Limelight Theatre will present “The Nance,” a recreation of the “naughty, raucous world of burlesque’s heyday” illustrating the story of Chauncey Miles and fellow performers. Performances will take place throughout June from Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with 2 p.m. Sunday matinees. Limelight Theatre is located at 11 Old Mission Ave. in St. Augustine. First Friday Art Walk

Experience one of St. Augustine’s most popular cultural events from 5 to 9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month. The Art Galleries of St. Augustine features new exhibits, refreshments and live music at more than 20 galleries. The St. Augustine Music Festival

June 15-17 and 22-24


The St. Augustine Music Festival has garnered national attention as the largest free classical music festival in the country, attracting more than 5,000 attendees over two weekends to the historic cathedral venue. Programs bring audiences intimate solo recitals, chamber music ensembles and full orchestral works. The Battle of Bloody Mose

This battle, reenacted by volunteers from Florida Living History, led to the British lifting their siege and ending their attack against St. Augustine in 1740. A reenactment will take place at Fort Mose Historic State Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m, featuring shows at noon and 2 p.m.  During the event, visitors will witness the live-action battle, watch weapons demonstrations and interact with reenactors portraying the lives of the Spanish, British, African and Native Americans who were present in St. Augustine and Fort Mose during this period. Annual Nature and Wildlife Exhibit

National and local artists’ works will be sold for the benefit of conservation and art education at the annual Nature and Wildlife Exhibit held at the St. Augustine Art Association. Nature in all its forms and the wildlife that inhabit the great outdoors are celebrated in this dynamic, gallery-wide exhibition. The art association is located at 22 Marine St.

Chad Calek presents “Sir NoFace Lives!”

Award-winning filmmaker and paranormal investigator Chad Calek claims to have finally discovered the footage that proves the existence of ghosts, presenting his paranormal documentary, “Sir NoFace Lives!” on screen at the Ponte Vedra Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall is located at 1050 A1A North in Ponte Vedra Beach.
