Ascension St. Vincent’s has been recognized by Becker’s Hospital Review on its list of 100 hospitals and health systems with great orthopedic programs for 2023.

St. Vincent’s is the only Jacksonville-area health system that earned this distinction. It is joined by several other Ascension facilities, including hospitals in Pensacola, Wisconsin and Michigan.

St. Vincent’s made the list for its commitment to providing exceptional orthopedic care for patients with musculoskeletal conditions or injuries. The health system also had to show a track record of shorter hospital stays, lower complication rates and high patient satisfaction scores. These outcomes reflect the hospital system's unwavering dedication to delivering orthopedic care.

“Orthopedics is a priority service for those in Northeast Florida,” said James Machado, president of Ascension St. Vincent's Southside. “When we opened the Performance Orthopedics and Spine Specialty Hospital, the first specialty hospital in Northeast Florida dedicated solely to orthopedic and spine care, we raised the bar for excellence in clinical outcomes, quality measures and patient care experience. We’re eager to continue expanding the care we can provide — not just on the orthopedic front — but across all services Northeast Florida requires.”

The orthopedic program at St. Vincent’s integrates advanced technologies to deliver superior patient outcomes. One example is incorporating specialized technology, which simplifies knee replacement surgery by providing valuable insights for precise implant selection and positioning, improving efficiency for surgeons with the overall goal of improving patient outcomes at each step of the patient journey.

St. Vincent’s has also earned a number of orthopedic distinctions, including Healthgrades Specialty Excellence Awards and a top-100 ranking in orthopedic surgery among American hospitals for 2022.
