Baptist Health gets top grades for patient safety

All four adult Baptist Health hospitals have once again been rated top of the class for patient safety according to a national organization’s latest rating.

Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, Baptist Medical Center South, Baptist Medical Center Beaches and Baptist Medical Center Nassau each received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2022, which recognizes the hospitals for providing the highest level of safety in patient care.

“Safety and quality are top priorities in every interaction with our patients,” said Matthew A. Zuino, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Baptist Health. “We know patients have a choice when it comes to health care and we use many measures, like Leapfrog, to ensure we are continuously evaluating and improving the care we offer.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog organization, assigns letter grades A, B, C, D or F to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures and their record of patient safety.

The rating takes into consideration:

  • Process measures (how a hospital gives treatment including responsiveness of hospital staff)
  • Structural measures (the environment where patients receive care)
  • Outcomes measures (what happens to a patient while receiving care)

Results are peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.

In addition to this recognition for Baptist Health’s adult hospitals, in December 2021, Wolfson Children’s Hospital was named a Top Children’s Hospital nationally by The Leapfrog Group.
