Long-time Ponte Vedra Beach resident Barbara Ann McCarthy Reiman, 89, passed away on August 10, 2025, in St. Augustine, Florida.
Born in Needham, Massachusetts, Barbara was the daughter of the late George and Mary Neill. She met her future husband, Herbert W. McCarthy, while in high school. They were later married and remained so until Herb’s death just six days shy of 50 years later. In 2012, she married Peter Reiman and remained married until Pete’s death in January of this year.
Barb gave birth to four children, though one, her second, John Christopher McCarthy, died nine days after his birth. Her oldest, Jim McCarthy (Liz) of Ponte Vedra, Florida and youngest, Carolyn McCarthy of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, survive her. Her other daughter, Kim McCarthy Peterson, died in 2005.
She also leaves behind five cherished grandchildren: Kevin McCarthy, Erin Peterson, Trey Butler, Scott Peterson, and Christopher Butler, and six great grandchildren, Mason, Ainsley, Mikayla, Dean, Camille, and Clinton all of whom live in the Jacksonville area. She is predeceased by her brother, George Neill, and her sister, Mary (Neill) Reslow.
Beneath her warmth was a strong will and determination that inspired those around her. Her greatest joy was time spent with family and friends. After a long illness, her passing brings peace from suffering, yet her light continues to shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
