For six years, the Oren Margol Foundation’s board members, Lane Strumlauf, Drew Margol, Joe Nasrallah and David Vandroff, have hosted a golf tournament in Oren Margol’s memory. Proceeds from the tournament benefit the Memorial Oren Margol Neuro-Oncology Endowment at Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center, providing support for neuro-oncology patient care, research and education programs with a focus on glioblastoma cancer.

In December 2009, Oren Margol was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Three years later, Oren passed away at the age of 48.

“Every year, on the Friday after Thanksgiving, we would get together for our annual golf match because we simply loved spending time together,” said Joe Nasrallah, golf tournament chair. “We've decided to make it our goal to keep Oren's name in bright lights with a sport he loved, while supporting brain cancer patient care and research at Baptist MD Anderson for others on a journey like his.”

In two years’ time, $185,000 has been donated to Baptist MD Anderson to support the neuro-oncology department.

This year, the Oren Margol Foundation’s Annual “Big O” Memorial Golf Tournament 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21, at the San Jose Country Club, 7529 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville. Registration is open at OrenMargolFoundation.org.
