Blanche Sue Batey Coggin, born December 29, 1929, returned to the loving arms of our Father on July 5, 2021 in the presence of her family at her home in Jacksonville Beach, Florida. She was a Christian, a mother, a wife, a philanthropist, and a friend to many across the globe.

She is survived by her daughters, Cindy Coggin (Kim), Christy Hayden and Tracye Hawkins; her grandchildren, Natalie Hall, Hunter Hayden, Alex Hayden, Joshua Hawkins (Kristin), and Chandler Coggin; and her great-grandchildren, Dylan, Noelle and Harmony Hawkins. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends, including Pat Richardson, Elaine Simone, Lois Aschenbach, Ramona Sturgill and Pearl Hicks, to name a few. She was close to them all.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Luther Coggin, her beloved daughter, Terrye Coggin Proctor, and her beautiful, blue-eyed grandson, Chase Hawkins.

Blanche was grateful to be a loyal follower of Christ and a member of the Disciples of Christ Christian Church.  She regularly attended the First Christian Church in Birmingham Alabama, where she met her husband, Luther Coggin. They married in October, 1949 and had four daughters before moving to Florida and becoming members of the First Christian Church of the Beaches here in Neptune Beach.

Blanche and Luther Coggin settled down in Ponte Vedra Beach and Jacksonville Beach, Florida living more than half of their married lives on the beach and vacationing to the mountains in North Carolina where they could enjoy the best of both worlds. Blanche enjoyed swimming, reading, playing tennis, and traveling. She and her husband travelled the world, touching on every continent except Antarctica.

Blanche loved any activity with her family and friends. She enjoyed countless days at the club with her tennis gals. She had a tremendous sense of humor, loving funny cards and jokes, and she delighted in solving puzzles and playing games, especially with her family.

Blanche served on the Jacksonville, Florida Salvation Army Advisory Board for more than 20 years. She was also a founding board member of the University of North Florida’s US Group, promoting women and girls health here in Jacksonville. She served in several offices of Disciples of Christ Church, primarily working with young people. Blanche and Luther’s kindness and generosity will continue for generations through their gifts to hospitals, educational institutions and charities.

Through prosperity and adversity, Blanche always relied upon her Christian faith, retained her sense of humor, and shared her love with all who were in her presence. She was loved by many and will be missed by all who loved her.

There will be a Celebration of Life Service at First Christian Church of the Beaches, 2125 Ocean Front, Neptune Beach, Florida 32266 on Saturday, July 17 at 2:00 pm.
