With bubbles, balloons and buckets of sand, the Bolles Lower School in Ponte Vedra Beach celebrated the official groundbreaking of its new multipurpose building and gym Wednesday, Aug. 23 at the school’s 200 ATP Tour Blvd. campus.

Faculty, staff and students in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade gathered in the morning to mark the occasion and watched as Bolles administration members ceremonially shoveled sand into orange and blue buckets.

“We are so fortunate to have generous givers who made this much-needed campus addition a reality,” said Bolles Lower School Ponte Vedra Beach Campus Head Peggy Campbell-Rush. “We are all excited to watch the progress on campus this school year.”

The facility, which will have an area of approximately 10,800 square feet, is set to include a basketball court, bleachers, an outdoor amphitheater, a music and drama classroom, a stage, a coaching staff office and bathrooms.

“[The building] will support a lot of areas of school life,” Bolles President and Head of School David Farace said. “We really focus on mind, body and spirit. So, it will be a gym, which will be great for the athletic portion of our curriculum, and it will also have a really nice stage, so that will support our performing arts program. And then we’re going to have some flex spaces in there for other arts opportunities; so, it’s really a nice mix of arts and athletics for us.”

According to Farace, building on the project is scheduled to be completed by the end of the 2017 – 2018 school year.

“We already have a really amazing school community here,” Farace added. “It’s just going to enhance something that’s already really wonderful.”
