On Monday, Baptist Health and Brett McClung announced McClung’s resignation as the health system’s president and CEO, effective May 1.

“This was a difficult decision that I reached after much reflection,” McClung said in a statement. “It has been a privilege working with what I consider to be the best health care team in northeast Florida and I am proud of all we have accomplished together. Baptist Health has always been financially and reputationally strong, and I know they will continue to be this community’s health care leader.”

Since McClung became president and CEO of Baptist Health on July 1, 2019, the health system has achieved notable accomplishments including top rankings from U.S. News & World Report; straight A’s on The Leapfrog Group Hospital Safety Grades; highest honors for Stroke Gold Plus hospitals for comprehensive stroke care; and formalizing the health system’s strategic plan for achieving a transformational vision of “A Lifetime of Health, Together.”

“On behalf of the Board, we thank Brett for his service and accomplishments during his tenure as CEO,” said Richard Sisisky, chairman of the Baptist Health board of directors. “We are grateful for his leadership and we wish Brett and his family the very best.”

“We are fortunate to have Michael Mayo, DHA, hospital president of Baptist Medical Center Jacksonville, assume the role of interim president and CEO of Baptist Health. Michael and the rest of our outstanding leadership team will ensure a continued focus on excellence as the Board conducts a thorough internal and external search in the coming months.”
