Film to be screened at The Waterworks

The St. Johns County Public Library System, in partnership with the St. Johns Cultural Council and the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine, will screen the film “Soul of a People” at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 1, in The Waterworks, 184 San Marco Blvd.

“Soul of a People” explores the Federal Writers’ Project, one of the controversial programs of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), and presents a vivid picture of one of the most challenging times in American history.

The Federal Writers’ Project was one of many New Deal programs put in place by the WPA, employing men and women at all levels of society. This screening is provided through a special agreement between the Friends of the Main Library St. Augustine and the producers of the film. There will be some commentary at the beginning of the program that will provide a look at various WPA projects in St. Johns County that we still benefit from today.

The program is free, and seating will be on a first come, first served basis as space is limited. Refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 904-827-6928 or email hgeorge@sjcfl.us.
