Writers as researchers is meeting topic

Some writers hate research, but author Dorothy K. Fletcher loves going to libraries, historical societies, antique stores and churches where she can rummage through the lives of long-gone people to find interesting facts to use in her writing.

Fletcher will present “Making Research a Pleasant & Happy Experience,” at the FWA Ponte Vedra Writers meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the Ponte Vedra Beach Branch Library.

In her presentation, she will provide writers with methods they haven’t considered for the acquisition of information.

In 2007, she retired after 35 years of teaching high school English in Jacksonville. At that time, she began her writing career in earnest. Many of her poems had already been published in literary magazines and she even had the honor of reading her poetry at an event at the Library of Congress.

She’s also written six histories about the city of Jacksonville, two novels and a children’s book.

The Ponte Vedra Writers group is part of the Florida Writers Association, a statewide, nonprofit organization dedicated to the support of both aspiring and published writers. The Aug. 27 meeting is free and open to members and nonmembers alike. For information on FWA, go to floridawriters.org.
