Castor gatehouse becomes first named building at Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge

The first thing every person that enters Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge sees is the facility’s entrance gate house, and now moving forward it will be called the Castor gate house thanks to a generous donation by Debbie and Tony Castor to the Vicars Landing Foundation recently.

According to Bruce Vorsanger, Vicar’s Landing chief development officer, the Vicar’s Landing Foundation is in place to enhance the lives of members through a variety of services offered.

The name only seemed fitting since the gate house was finished and has been operational.

New residents are joining the Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge community and the gate is the first sight they see when they enter the property.

For the Castors they will be frequenters through the gate, as they have plans to move in and become residents at Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge.

“It really is a beautiful facility,” Debbie Castor said.

The gate house became the first building to be named after someone on the Vicar’s Landing at Oak Bridge property, which makes it even more of a special moment for the Castors.

“We believe in what they’re doing here, and felt that it is something that we eventually want to be a part of,” Tony Castor said. “Where else better to put your money toward than an organization that you know is going to do something good with it.”

According to Tony Castor, seeing their last name for the first time after the plaque on the side of the gate house was unveiled was a crazy feeling.

“We initially heard about all that they’re doing here from Bruce, because he’s been a good friend for quite a while,” Tony Castor said. “Once he started telling us all that’s going on here, it didn’t take us long to start getting pretty enthusiastic.”

When the Castors first heard about the little ceremony that was planned as part of the gate house name unveiling it was something that was sort of a surprise and they were humbled by the entire experience.

“We really are very low-key people,” Debbie Castor chuckled.

The Castors have lived in the area for many years, as Debbie Castor had been a frequent visitor to the area since her dad retired in 1975 in Atlantic Beach and the couple bought their house and moved to the area in 2013.

“We’ve really seen Ponte Vedra grow over those years,” Tony Castor said. “We live in Sawgrass now and just really enjoy playing golf and this is the mecca when it comes to golf.”
