‘ChamberU’ provides members with relevant, convenient business education

The St. Johns County Chamber of Commerce has partnered with Chamber member Lani Carrow, CEO of Work Life Connection, to offer an exclusive, online training program for management and development called “ChamberU.”

In the first webinar, episode 1, “Determining Your Management Style,” Carrow discusses personal preferences and listening behaviors using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI). The MBTI is an introspective self-report questionnaire indicating differing psychological learning and communicating preferences.

According to the Myers & Briggs Foundation, the purpose of the MBTI personality inventory is to make the theory of psychological types described by psychiatrist C. G. Jung understandable and useful in people's lives. The essence of the theory, per the foundation, is that much seemingly random variation in the behavior is actually quite orderly and consistent, due to basic differences in the ways individuals prefer to use their perception and judgment.

Carrow has created a “quickie” version to conveniently be taken online. This exercise helps managers understand the perception of staff and staff to understand management preferences.

Throughout her career, Carrow has participated in the growth of employee development from its inception as a continuous improvement HR activity to its current status as a proactive business partner, actualizing effective organizational performance. Her background spans the retail, insurance, education, entertainment, pharmaceutical, healthcare and banking industries.
