Cheers to 50 Years!

Milk, bread and the Ponte Vedra Recorder

Posted

In 1969, a gallon of milk was $1.10, a loaf of bread was 23 cents and a subscription to the Recorder was $5 by mail. Prices have gone up in 50 years, but from where we sit, a subscription to the Recorder is still a great value at $35. (Forgive the shameless plug.)

The first issue of the Ponte Vedra Recorder published Nov. 7, 1969. To celebrate the wit, wisdom and history of the Recorder’s readership, newspaper staff is eager to learn about and share your clippings from past issues. So, look in the attic or in those boxes tucked away at the back of the closet to find past issues of the paper. Maybe you have a scrapbook with clippings of family weddings, births or graduations. Was a friend or family member honored for playing sports, volunteering or engaging in politics? Whatever the subject, if you have pages from or complete issues of past Ponte Vedra Recorders, contact the staff at pvrecorder@opcfla.com. You can scan take pictures of pages or clippings and send them in. Or, stop by the office and we’ll capture the images for you.
