COA Center in Nocatee announces programs

The following programs will be held at COA Center at Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee at 351 Town Plaza Ave., Suite 205, Ponte Vedra. Registration is required and space is limited. FITNESS CLASSES

Chair Yoga:  10:30 a.m. Tuesdays, starting June 7. Four weeks. Instructor: Alison Vitta. Cost is $30. To register, go to coasjc.coursestorm.com/category/coa-center-at-nocatee.

Stretch, Strengthen, Move and Groove: 12:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting June 7. Instructor: Maggie McNeilly. Cost is $30. To register, go to coasjc.coursestorm.com/category/coa-center-at-nocatee.

Belly Dancing for Beginners: 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays, starting June 7. Four weeks. Instructor: Gina Marie Newman. Cost is $30. To register, go to coasjc.coursestorm.com/category/coa-center-at-nocatee.

EDUCATIONAL CLASSES

Ask the Pharmacist: 10 a.m. June 8. An informative discussion with retired pharmacist and local resident Ray Lowe.

Summer Nutrition Tips: 10 a.m. June 22. Presented by Carla Defuria, registered dietitian and health coach at Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee. 

Learn how to garden with herbs that thrive in NE Florida: 10-11:30 a.m. June 29. Instructor: Terra Freeman, Urban and Commercial Horticultural Extension Agent and Master Gardener Coordinator for UF/IFAS Extension St. Johns County. Cost: Free.

Medical Cannabis, are you curious and want to know more? 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. June 21. Sherif El-Salawy MD, medical director of Aesthetix Plus, will talk about what medical conditions may benefit from medical marijuana and the process to legally obtain it. Refreshments will be provided. Questions and answers after the presentation.

FREE CLUBS AND MEETINGS

No instructor will be present at the events. Meetings will be self-guided by the group except for the Caregiver’s Support Group and Let’s Talk about Grief. Advance registration for clubs and meetings is required by calling 904-819-3234 or via email to pbrunell@stjohnscoa.com.

Tuesdays:

Let’s Talk About Grief: Meets the first and second Tuesday of each month — 9:30-11:30 a.m. June 7, 9:30-10:30 a.m. June 14. There will be a group facilitator present at each meeting.

Caregiver Support Group: All caregivers are welcome. Meets 1 to 2 p.m. Tuesdays, except holidays. There is a trained facilitator present at every meeting to guide the group.

Widows and Widowers: Social group meeting the second and fourth Tuesday of every month from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Meetings: June 14 and 28. 

Wednesdays:

Open Art Studio: Bring your art or craft project and work on it while making new friends. This group meets from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Wednesdays.

Mah Jongg Meet-Up: For experienced players. No instructor present. From 1 to 3 p.m. June 1, 8, 22 and 29 and 3-5 p.m. June 15.

Parkinson’s Meet, Greet & Learn: 3 p.m. Wednesday, June 1. A representative from JAX Hope will be present, and local support and resources will be discussed. The speaker, Heather Davis of Legacy, will explain how to access home health care through Medicare.

Genealogy Group: 1-2:30 p.m. June 15. A genealogy expert will be present.

Bingo: 10-11 a.m. June 15.
