With the health and well-being of St. Johns County seniors as their top priority, St. Johns County Council on Aging (COA) has extended their recent program closures through May 31, 2020. All COA senior centers in St. Johns County (Coastal Community Center, River House, Hastings, Trout Creek and THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center in Ponte Vedra), all Integrative Memory Enhancement Program (IMEP) classes, and the Sunshine Center adult day care facility will remain closed through May 31.

While these services will be closed, Meals on Wheels will continue to be delivered, and COA caseworkers and staff will continue to be available by phone and via email. Seniors and caregivers in need of COA’s assistance are encouraged to contact COA at 904-209-3700 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., via email at info@coasjc.org, and via their website at www.coasjc.org.

Sunshine Bus service and Paratransit buses will continue to operate at the current levels of service with additional safety measures recommended by the CDC in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.

For those Sunshine Bus riders requiring essential rides to work, medical appointments, pharmacies and grocery stores, Sunshine Bus will continue to provide trips to essential destinations only. Paratransit riders who require transportation in order to obtain or provide essential services or conduct essential activities may register for Paratransit door-to-door services. For more information, please call 904-209-3716. COA will continue to post updates via Facebook at www.facebook.com/coasjc/, via Instagram at www.instagram.com/councilonagingsjc/ and via the COA weekly e-newsletter. To sign up to receive the e-newsletter, please visit www.coasjc.org.

“Now more than ever, we are relying upon the community’s help to be there for the seniors in our community,” explained COA executive director, Becky Yanni. “The best way to help right now is with monetary donations so that we can adjust to rapidly changing needs during this crisis.” If you would like to help seniors in St. Johns County, please visit www.coasjc.org/donate/. Checks may also be mailed to COA at 180 Marine St., St. Augustine, Fla., 32084.
