COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center announces January 2023 events

The following programs will be held at COA’s THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center, 175 Landrum Lane, Ponte Vedra Beach, beginning in January 2023. Lunch: Noon to 1 p.m. Tuesdays. Five weeks starting Jan. 3. Registration required a week in advance and fee of $5-per-meal required.

Lunch: Noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays. Four weeks starting Jan. 5. Registration required a week in advance and fee of $5-per-meal required.

Duplicate Bridge: Four Fridays starting Jan. 6, noon to 3 p.m. Fee required: $2 per person, per Friday.

Line Dancing Class: Instructor Will Oglesby teaches many different line dances with a good selection of music. Open to all adults and experience levels. Four weeks starting Jan. 4, 4-5:30 p.m. Registration and fee required: $30 per month.

Tap Dance Class: Instructor Ginny Wirzbicki brings much experience to this style of dance and encourages all different levels of dance to learn. Four weeks starting Jan. 6, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Registration and fee required: $30 per month. 

Acrylic Painting: Four weeks starting Jan. 4, 9 a.m. to noon. Acrylic painting class with instructor on the second Wednesday of each month.

Hisshin Sumi-E Painting Class: Traditional East Asian brush painting. 11:30 a.m. Jan. 12. This class meets once a month, on the second Thursday. Fee required: $3 per person.

Caregiver Support Group (free program): 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Jan. 4. Open to all adult caregivers and meets once a month, on the first Wednesday. Register with Alzheimer’s Association at 800-272-3900.

Chair Exercise: 9:30-10 a.m. Tuesdays. Five weeks Jan. 3.

Chair Exercise: 9-9:30 a.m. Wednesdays. Four weeks starting Jan. 4.

Chair Exercise: 9:30-10 a.m. Thursdays. Four weeks starting Jan. 5.

Tai Chi: Four weeks starting Jan. 5, 10-11 a.m.

Canasta: 10 a.m. to noon Tuesdays. Five weeks starting Jan. 3.

Canasta: 10 a.m. to noon Thursdays. Four weeks starting Jan. 5.

Mexican Train Dominoes: Five weeks starting Jan. 3, 10 to 11:30 a.m.

Ask a Nurse: Five weeks starting Jan. 3, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Bingo: 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays. Five weeks starting Jan. 3.

Bingo: 1-2 p.m. Thursdays. Four weeks starting Jan. 5.

Jeopardy Style Trivia: Four weeks starting Jan. 4, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Social Bridge: Four weeks starting Jan. 4, 9-9:30 a.m.

Board Game Playing: Four weeks starting Jan. 4, 9-9:30 a.m.

Wii Bowling: Four weeks starting Jan. 5, 10-11 a.m.

Tech Help: Five weeks starting Jan. 5, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Reservation required.

Dominoes Fun: Four weeks starting Jan. 6, 10 a.m. to noon.

Bocce Ball: Four weeks starting Jan. 6, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Brain Games: Enjoy games and other activities for seniors from never2old4games. Four weeks starting Jan. 6, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

2023 Vision Board Part II: 11 a.m. Jan. 3. What’s your hope for the New Year? Join friends old and new as we talk resolutions and intentions for the new year. Each participant will decorate a paper “vision board” to take home with things they want to see, do or be in 2023.

Nutrition Presentation: The Anti-inflammatory Diet: New Year, New You! 11 a.m. Jan. 5. An Anti-inflammatory diet can support healing and help protect you from future illness. Chronic inflammation has been linked to a wide range of health conditions. Explore what to eat and what not to eat as we learn about the anti-inflammatory diet from Carla Defuria, a registered dietitian and health coach at the Flagler Health+ Village at Nocatee.

Cookbook Kick-off, Planning and Status: Senior center members, volunteers and staff will submit recipes, stories and photos for inclusion into the 2023 cookbook. This fun project endeavors to make folks feel a little more connected to one another by way of their kitchens. Participants will meet several times during the month, but the kick-off meeting will be Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. Check the monthly calendar or website for more details.

Makeovers and Photos (two dates): Local make-up artists and photographers visit the senior center to provide make-overs and professional portraits. 11 a.m. Jan. 12 and 17. Cost: $1.

Lou Parisi Birthday Bash: 11 a.m. Jan. 19. Enjoy birthday cake and the vocal stylings of THE PLAYERS Community Senior Center favorite Lou Parisi as everyone celebrates January birthdays.

Ameris Bank Presentation: 11 a.m. Jan. 24. A presentation on rising rate market and the impact, both good and bad on those who have long term savings.

Legal Aid Educational Presentation: 11 a.m. Jan. 26. Do you know what happens if you die without a will? Megan Wall, St. Johns County Legal Aid managing attorney, explains.
