Community raises $30K to fight MS

To the Editor:

Let's hear it once again for Beaches area businesses and residents, who for 12 consecutive years have loyally supported the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, North Florida Chapter and its mission to create a world free of MS.

While World MS Day was May 30, earlier in the month nearly 300 local businesses, restaurants and service providers generously donated so that organizers and volunteers could raise a record $30,000-plus. A hundred percent of the proceeds from the 12th annual MS Awareness silent auction will go toward research, along with providing programs and services for the 18,000 or more North Floridians impacted by the disease.

This year, area residents packed into longtime host Mr. Chubby's Wings in Ponte Vedra Beach to bid on hundreds of items, including vacations, fine wine, merchandise, jewelry, art and more than 80 restaurants. Since 2013, the event — sponsored by the local fundraising Big Banana bicycle team — has raised nearly $300,000 for the organization.

We'd be hard-pressed to find a more supportive community.
