Cub Scouts receive awards during Blue and Gold Banquet

Posted

Cub Scout Pack 277, sponsored by Christ Episcopal Church in Ponte Vedra Beach, recently held their Blue and Gold Banquet.

The banquet is a celebration of the birthday of Scouting and recognizes scouts for all they have done throughout the year.

This year’s celebration was different due to COVID-19 and was much more limited in size.  The celebration was held at Christ Episcopal on Feb. 5.

Younger Scouts enjoyed Cub Scout-themed birthday celebration cookies at a drive-through ceremony.  The boys and girls in first through fourth grade also were recognized with the awards and accomplishments that they have earned throughout the year.

The fifth-grade scouts had an in-person celebration as they earned the highest award in Cub Scouts, the Arrow of Light. These scouts had a pizza party and cake to celebrate before having a cross-over ceremony.

Thirteen scouts were recognized with the Arrow of Light and made the transition into Boy Scouts. The boys were led by adult leader Bill Vickers and the girls were led by adult leader Cordes Lindow.

Cub Scout Pack 277 has been active in Ponte Vedra Beach since 1977.  They currently have approximately 60 active youth, including both boy and girl dens. Activities that they have participated in include camping, a pinewood derby, overnight trips to the Jacksonville Zoo, Kennedy Space Center and Sea World, and beach cleanup projects. The cubmaster for Pack 277 is James Streit.
