Cypress Village auctions off eggs of art to raise funds for employee scholarship fund

The Cypress Village marketing team silent auctioned off 45 ornate hand-decorated eggs to raise money for the community employee scholarship fund this Easter season.

The eggs were originally donated to the community by a former resident, Pat Kilpatrick, and have been on display in the marketing office for more than five years. Lisa Green, director of sales and marketing, knew the Kilpatricks, who were residents at the community for nearly 30 years and were loved by many, including Green, who helped Pat Kilpatrick sell his home and move into an apartment in 2012 after his wife’s passing.

Kilpatrick was well known for the elaborately designed and decorated eggs that he created as a hobby later on in his life.

“I was always intrigued by his collection,” Green said, “and I remember he had thousands of different eggs that he had decorated over the years.”

The collection includes a variety of hand-carved or decorated quail, chicken, duck, goose and even ostrich eggs of all sizes. Some are decorated with stamps the Kilpatricks collected on their travels, and others have unique shells or other decorations. Upon his passing in 2014, Pat’s son Terry Dix donated the eggs to Cypress Village and they have been proudly displayed in the marketing office for many years.

After more than five years on display, the marketing team at Cypress Village is raising funds through a silent auction towards the employee scholarship fund, a resident-led initiative to help employees pursue continuing education while working at the community.

The Kilpatricks lived at the community since 1995 and made lots of friends and were very loved by the marketing team.

“It only made sense to give back to the community that Pat loved so much, and the response has been tremendous, with residents stopping by every day to share their stories of Pat, and admiring his work,” Green said.
