Cypress Village hosts 4th annual Putters Tournament, raises money for K9s For Warriors

Cypress Village hosted its fourth annual Putters Tournament on the Cypress Green on Friday, June 11.

The event included 40 putters, and an additional 50 spectators were there to watch the games, while enjoying hot dogs and hamburgers fresh off the grill. Prizes were awarded for lowest scratch score, low net score for Cypress Putters members and low net for nonmembers. Overall, residents loved the opportunity to mix and mingle and enjoy a day outdoors with friends and family.

Resident Jerry Sanda and the Cypress Village Putters coordinated the tournament for the fourth year after its initial conception in 2017. Initially, the group created the tournament as a great opportunity to showcase residents’ skill and to simply have a fun day out on the green. The weather was perfect at the boathouse as residents and guests watched the tournament unfold, while enjoying a drink or hamburger, along with live music.

This year, the Cypress Village Putters wanted to use the tournament to raise awareness for a local charity, K9s For Warriors, a Ponte Vedra-based nonprofit that seeks to end veteran suicide and help veteran service members. K9s For Warriors rescues and trains shelter dogs to be paired as service dogs for warriors with service-connected post-traumatic stress-related disorders. The group had a tent at the event and were able to talk with residents about the services it offers, and even had some dogs and trainers present during the tournament. Cypress Village residents donated more than $2,500 to the group to be able to help veterans and the rescue dogs at the facility in Ponte Vedra Beach.

The Cypress Village Putters Club is one of more than 35 resident-led clubs, groups and activities at Cypress Village. The group meets weekly on the green for a quick nine holes and all skill levels are welcome. The group is open to all residents, and everyone has a great time ‘puttering’ around the green.

Cypress Village is a Jacksonville-area continuing-care retirement-care community that offers residents numerous services, amenities and multiple levels of care. For more information on Cypress Village, call (904) 223-6100.
