Continuing Care Retirement Community resident, Elizabeth Kurtz celebrated her 105th birthday among friends at Cypress Village on June 26. Kurtz moved to the retirement community when she and her husband purchased their house over a decade ago. She has since transitioned through the various levels of care provided by Cypress Village.

“The CCRC model offers residents like Elizabeth to live an independent lifestyle for as long as possible,” Executive Director, Ty Morgan said. “If or when they need more care, they can receive proper care while remaining in a familiar community among friends and caretakers.”

Kurtz enjoyed sharing birthday cake and ice cream with longtime friend and fellow resident, Rhoda Boutin. They became good friends once Boutin moved to the retirement community and have remained such despite now living in separate levels of care.

Morgan believes this is what makes the continuing care continuum successful.

“Residents are able to cultivate relationships that grow and flourish even as they transition to higher levels of care,” Morgan said. “As a result, residents experience longer and more fulfilling lives.”

Cypress Village is a Retirement Care Community located adjacent to the Mayo Clinic offering homes and apartments on a 120-acre campus. For more information, call (904) 223-6100.
