Apex Theatre Studio has added a performance of “The Diary of Anne Frank.” The powerful play featuring local actors will be on stage at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at St. Francis in-the-field Episcopal, 895 Palm Valley Road, in Ponte Vedra Beach. Tickets are $15. Reservations and more information can be found at apextheatrejax.com.

“We have experienced a powerful reaction from our audiences, playing to capacity in both St. Augustine and Jacksonville,” said Ian Mairs, managing director for Apex Theatre Studio.

“After each weekend of shows, we would get texts and emails from audience members hoping we would bring the show back so they could get their friends and family to see it.”

Previous performances took place in January at The Waterworks in St. Augustine, at St. John’s Cathedral (Taliaferro Hall) in Jacksonville, along with Duval and St. Johns County schools.

“The Diary of Anne Frank” is one of the most famous and haunting stories to emerge from the 20th century. The memoirs of this young Jewish girl, forced to hide for nearly two years to escape Nazi persecution, are an essential part of how we remember one of the darkest periods of human history.

Every generation encounters the text and has the same reaction. In the face of such inhumanity, the human spirit still perseveres.

The production is under the direction of guest artist George Judy, professor of theater at Louisiana State University. It features a mixture of students and professional teaching artists. The role of Anne Frank will be played by Eva Gassert, a sophomore at Nease High School.
