Dick Williams letter to the editor

Hurricane Irma arrived to our county almost a year after Hurricane Matthew made its unwelcome visit. While many of us are busy clearing storm damage, it is important to stop and say thank you to those who have worked to keep us safe.

Our St. Johns County first responders, from our officials at the St Johns County Sheriff’s Office under the leadership of Sheriff David Shoar to the police departments from the cities of St. Augustine and St. Augustine Beach, deserve our thanks and appreciation. I also want to thank our firefighters and emergency health care workers for the important role that they played during the storm.

Knowing that they worked throughout both storms to help with evacuations, while also continuing to execute their normal duties, demonstrates professionalism and dedication that we as a community are lucky to haveand they also had to help prepare their families for the storm.

Our first responders’ actions are one more example of what makes St Johns County a very special place. I say thank you again for your service.
